Georgia O’Keeffe as photographer

From the Todd Webb Archive:

“Todd met Georgia O’Keeffe in 1943 at Alfred Stieglitz’s gallery, An American Place. He had dropped off some prints there the previous day and returned to find them propped up on Georgia’s desk with her studying them intently.

Their friendship solidified after Stieglitz’s death in 1946, when Webb helped Georgia prepare for her show at MoMA and made installation shots of the exhibit.

Later on — during Todd’s walk across America in 1955 — he stayed with O’Keeffe for several weeks on his way through New Mexico.

When Todd and his wife Lucille began to grow tired of living in New York, Georgia convinced them to move to Santa Fe in 1961. It was during those years that Todd taught O’Keeffe how to photograph, spending countless days together in Abiquiu and out at Ghost Ranch.”

For the next several months @toddwebbarchive will be posting images and anecdotes that illustrate this lifelong friendship between O’Keeffe and Webb.
